All You Need to Know about BSNL Kavach

BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited), the only government-owned telecom operator in India, has done something that no other telecom has even done. Currently, the PSU has been testing this service with selected users to test its efficiency and how it goes. So the service we are talking about is BSNL Kavach. It’s more like an encryption technology that allows women to recharge their phone numbers without revealing their actual numbers(personal).

What is BSNL Kavach?

On the auspicious occasion of International Women’s Day on 8th March 2026, BSNL announced its Kavach service. It basically works like a shield that protects the woman’s personal number from potential misuse. To use it, the customer has to give a missed call on a particular number, and the operator, i.e., BSNL, will send a Kavach number that can be used at the retail outlet to recharge the number without even revealing the personal/actual number.

Now, most of the users are recharging their mobile numbers with the help of popular UPI platforms like GPay and PhonePay. Even after that, there are probably millions of subscribers who are still using the retail outlet method for recharging, and it’s a game-changer for them.

BSNL announced its Kavach as a service via a social media post on X, which was previously known as Twitter. On its official handle, the company wrote, “Your number is personal. Your safety is powerful. With the BSNL Kavach Number, recharge without revealing your real number. Empowering women with secure and private connectivity.”

So far, the teleco has been focusing on solving customer-centric problems, and it really seems to be working quite well.
