Airtel Will Not Get Any Relief Like VI in AGR Dues – Jyotiraditya Scindia

Being the second largest telecom provider in India, Airtel will still not get any concession like VI. The telecom minister has made it clear that the central government is not considering any option to provide any relief to Airtel in AGR Dues.

However, Airtel wants the same relief as the VI, where the government has frozen the AGR dues for the next 10 years, which will allow the company to invest more in its expansion and improve the services. But when it comes to Airtel, the situation is totally different from the government’s views. The company is doing quite well in terms of finances, and its position is way better compared to VI.

Addressing the concerns of Airtel and other private players in the telecom sector, the minister said, “We are operating under a verdict of the Supreme Court. As far as AGR is concerned, it is based on that verdict that we have taken whatever action.” If Airtel wants the same relief as the VI, then it has knock on the doors of the Supreme Court, as the central government is not interested in helping the telco at this time.

VI only got the relief after the Supreme Court instructed the government to do so. If any other player wants the same benefit, then they should also approach the court for that.
