BSNL to Expand Its 4G Network in India

The State-owned BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has planned to go ahead with a full-on 4G Expansion in the financial year 2026-27. The PSU will use the indigenous Equipment provided by Tejas network, which will further boost the domestic manufacturing telecom market.

BSNL 4G Network Expansion

As per the statement of the BSNL CMD, A. Robert J Ravi, the PSU will continue to expand its 4G Network. Right now, the company is finalizing an order for a total of 30,000 additional sites, which will further strengthen the network and provide reliable service to the customers. Out of which 10,000 sites will be deployed on the operating Expenditure (opex) model.

BSNL’s ongoing installation of 1 lakh towers is about to be completed by TCS(Tata Consultancy Services), on which more than 97K towers have already been installed and made operational ready. Once completed, the PSU will release the additional 30K sites in order to expand its 4G presence in the nation.

Further, Robert Ravi also added that currently our priority is to provide a smooth, reliable, and robust 4G Network across the nation. The company will continue to expand its network in the current fiscal year, and also plans to launch a fully indigenous 5G Network in some selected cities later in this year.

The expansion of netwok will enhance the connectivity and user experience in the competitive Indian telecom market. The private telecom players(Jio & Airtel) have already deployed more than 500K cell towers to provide a robust network, while BSNL is still busy expanding its 4G network.

BSNL New VoWi-Fi Services

A few weeks back, the PSU had already rolled out its new VoWiFi(Voice over Wi-Fi) service across the nation. Using the service, the customer can make calls using wifi network, providing superior indoor quality. It’s quite helpful in areas where there is either a poor or weak signal strength, espcially the rural areas.

Indigenous Network Equipment

PSU Initial, 4G launch faced a lot of delay because of the govt mandate to go with a purely indigenous tech, replacing the earlier Chinese vendors. After years of continuous struggle, CDOT, along with TCS and Tejas, developed a homegrown 4G Network stack, bypassing the needs of other international vendors.

Now its matter of time, once giant telecom player BSNL might rise again to stop the ongoing trend of duopoly in the Indian telecom sector.
