BSNL Plans to Shut Down Its 3G Services Nationwide

The government-owned teleco BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) plans to shut down its 3G services nationwide and reframe the spectrum to improve the 4G services. However, these are just plans, and no one knows whether they are going to be implemented or not.

All the private players like Airtel and Vodafone Idea have already shut down their 3G services and reframed their spectrum to improve and provide a reliable network to the users.

One of the key reasons behind the shutdown is the Chinese equipment. If you don’t know about it, then here’s the whole truth. Before 2020, all the teleco players in the country were dependent either on the Chinese or the European players for the telecom equipment. Equipment from China was cheap and more cost-effective, so everyone went with that.

Being a dictatorship regime, the Chinese companies can spy and interfere in our internal affairs. So our national government banned all the Chinese teleco players and canceled all the equipment supply contracts with ZTE and Huawei. The government also gives direction to remove all the China-origin equipment from the telecom infrastructure in a phased manner.

As per the reports, BSNL is planning to switch off its 3G services and dismantle its old infrastructure. Besides that, the teleco is also looking forward to canceling its annual maintenance contract (AMC) with Chinese and European Vendors to save the fortune of company and lower its operational cost.

The removal will be done in a phased manner, especially in those areas where the 4G services are working fine without any major issues. It will be a one step forward for the company to launch its much-awaited 5G services in the near future.
